About #

Hey there! I'm a Software Engineering Manager, a former high school English teacher, and a firm believer that a decent type system can be just as fun to work with as iambic pentameter. Interpretation of that idea is left as an exercise to the reader.

My journey into tech wasn't exactly traditional, but not completely unheard of either. I traded in grading essays for writing code, and along the way, I discovered that many of the lessons from my past life, like the power of clear communication, the importance of mentorship, and the creative spark that comes from constraints, are surprisingly relevant in my new one.

On this blog, you'll find tales from the trenches of software development. We're talking hard-won technical post-mortems (I've got stories!), reflections on leading and growing happy engineering teams, and the occasional tortured metaphor. I'm passionate about building not just great software, but also great teams and healthier, more human-friendly ways of working.

When I’m not untangling pushing Jira tickets around or facilitating a coaching session, you can probably find me on a rock climbing wall, trying and failing to write a song, or thinking about how running (very slowly) is a perfect metaphor for overcoming programming challenges.

My goal is to share what I'm learning, laugh at my own mistakes, and maybe help a few others on their own journey. I'm so glad you're here.
